How Does the Electricity Get to Our House?

How does electricity reach our home? Have you ever thought about it? What route does it make so that when you press the switch immediately, there is light? We will explain the entire journey on how electricity gets to your home. The first thing to know is that electric power is not primary energy, but secondary. That is, it needs to be produced. Remember that primary energy is that which is found in nature: natural resources. Thus, to generate electricity, we must transform primary energy.

Electricity Production

Electric Power Transport

Once electricity is produced, from one source or another, the next step is to transport it. We will have to transform it and provide it with more tension so that the smallest possible energy is lost. This is done in the centers of transformation. Once it has the necessary power to be transported, the electric power is sent to substations to distribute it.

In this phase, the substations are in charge of transporting the electricity from the distribution centers to the different places in which it is going to be consumed. They have an entire infrastructure for this work. In addition to distributing electrical energy, another one of its tasks is the maintenance of the whole network. It decides which distributor operates in each area of the national territory.
